Gastro-MD Tampa Announces Jamie Barber as Director of Operations
Jamie Barber’s career has come full circle.
Jamie’s first job after completing an Administrative Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, N.Y., was working as the Division Administrator of Gastroenterology. Now, she has returned to Gastroenterology as the Director of Operations for Gastro-MD. Jamie has worked in healthcare management for the entirety of her 20-year career, drawn to both the clinical and academic structure.
Gastro-MD has two locations serving Orlando and Tampa. Jamie will be growing the Tampa office with more physicians and clinical staff. She says, “I was looking for a change, looking for a new challenge and liked the idea of a new startup practice and the vision to grow it to a GI center of excellence.”
Jamie is responsible for growing a hub and spoke practice model in the Tampa Market. She will focus on optimizing the Cypress location and its existing space and then will evaluate new offsite community locations in the future. Gastro-MD in Tampa has plans to add 15-20 new physicians over the next two years.
Jamie says, “Working in the corporate office this past week–I was blown away by the culture. Everyone is so warm, welcoming and collaborative. They’ve been completely supportive of the position and role. We all have the same goal. It’s been amazing. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re getting into until you get to the organization, but it’s like a big family, and I’m thrilled to be here.”
Jamie is originally from Rome, N.Y., a small city with just over 30,000 residents in Upstate New York. She and her husband went to different schools; they had mutual friends but didn’t officially meet until they were in their mid-20s. Jamie’s husband Josh grew up next to her aunt. One day when she was visiting, they were introduced. Fast forward, and they’ve been married for 16 years, together for 18 and have two children–Josslyn, 12 and Josh Jr. (JJ), who is 8.
Both Jamie and her husband have always loved the Florida weather and warm climate. When the opportunity came to bring her to Tampa six years ago, she didn’t hesitate. Growing up, her family had always vacationed here, which made her familiar with the area. Jamie says, “We love being outside, the warm weather and sun. We only miss the snow on Christmas Day.”
Both of Jamie’s children play competitive sports, which means their weekends fill up quickly, but they also enjoy all of Florida’s amenities, especially its theme parks and beautiful beaches. As Yankee fans, they’ve enjoyed watching their spring training games in town. Tampa is home! “I have so much gratitude to Charles (Charles Davis, COO). He reached out to me in early 2021, and it didn’t take long for me to figure out that this was going to be a perfect fit for me,” Jamie said. “I look forward to building the Tampa office to a GI Center of excellence and growing professionally with Gastro-MD.”
